Duke Energy Posts $1.99 EPS in Q3 2026, Narrows Guidance to Top of Range
Duke Energy reported third-quarter 2026 earnings of $1.99 per share on both a reported and adjusted basis, up from $1.81 a year earlier, the Charlotte-based utility said in results released on November 5. The gain came mainly from rate recovery on infrastructure investment across Duke’s fast-growing service territories and from favorable weather, the company said in its earnings release filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
Growth Offset by Higher Costs
Duke Energy (NYSE: DUK) said higher depreciation expense, minority-interest impacts, increased interest expense and a higher effective tax rate partly offset the gains from rate cases and demand growth. For the first nine months of 2026, adjusted earnings per share reached $5.35, compared with $4.81 over the same period in 2025.
Duke serves customers across the Carolinas, Florida, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky, a footprint that includes some of the fastest-growing power demand regions in the United States as data centers and manufacturing expansion push up electricity consumption.
Guidance Narrowed to Top of Range
Duke narrowed its full-year 2026 adjusted earnings-per-share guidance to a range of $6.70 to $6.80, and said it expects to land near the top of that band. The company also reaffirmed its long-term target of 5% to 7% annual adjusted EPS growth through 2030, a growth rate utilities in the Southeast US have increasingly leaned on to justify large grid and generation capital programs tied to new large-load connections.
Regional Power Demand Context
Duke’s results arrive as power demand across its Carolinas territory continues to climb, a trend also visible in renewable energy financing activity in the region. energyRe closed $815 million in financing for five South Carolina solar projects in October, part of a broader build-out of generation capacity serving the same grid Duke operates. The earnings also land in the same week as strong results from US oil producers including Devon Energy, underscoring a broader pattern of US energy companies benefiting from elevated commodity prices and steady demand growth through the third quarter.
